Day 1: Flight to Venice.
Go to the departure airport ninety minutes before the scheduled departure time to deal with the check-in and embarkation of your flight to Venice. On arrival, collect your hire car and begin your tour which will let you get to know surprising Slovenia. Drive to Ljubljana (2 h 30 min approx), the capital of Slovenia, where you will spend the first stage of your trip. Spend the night in Ljubljana.
Day 2: Ljubljana.
You have the entire day to visit the capital of the Republic of Slovenia. It is a very pleasant city to get to know on foot with your children: you will discover the architecture of Jože Plečnik, in a modernist style, and you can stroll through the narrow streets of the historical district to the pier of Rinji Trg where you will be able to take a boat which will take you on a river cruise and which goes under the main bridges of the city. Then you can go up to Ljubljanski Grad Castle, on the hill called Grad; it is possible to go up on a funicular, a kind of tourist train, or alternatively you can follow one of the footpaths that leave from the historical quarter. Day 3: Excursion to the Caves of Skocjan.
Don't miss the impressive caves of this karstic region. The excursion we are suggesting for today will take you to the caves of Skocjan, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The visit lasts around two hours and the tour includes a large canyon and a suspension bridge. Afterwards, you will be able to visit Postojna, the most spectacular of the caves in Slovenia, which is twenty-one kilometres long of which part can be visited with tunnels and galleries on a small train and another small part on foot. Very close is Predjama Castle, built in the mouth of a cave, at a height of 125 metres. It will leave you open-mouthed. Spend the night at your accommodation in Ljubljana. Day 4: Ljubljana - Triglav National Park.
Today, drive towards the north to drive along the alpine valley of Logarska Dolina, an area of beautiful landscapes and enchanting villages, where it is well worth stopping and taking a walk on one of the footpaths. On the way back, stop for lunch at Kranj, an interesting medieval town on a rocky promontory; or in Bled, which stands out for its picturesque island in the middle of an alpine lake and its famous castle. You can take advantage to try an activity in the bosom of nature en famille such as taking a boat trip on the enchanting lake. Now you only have to continue to Triglav National Park and Bohinj Lake, where you will spend the following four nights. (Total for the route, 180 km approx.).
Day 5: Triglav National Park.
Now you can devote the entire day to getting to know this impressive natural setting. The options are endless! You can take any of a large number of excursions in the area of Lake Bohinj to visit the alpine lakes and the marvelous waterfalls. Remember that the Bohinj Card is included, which offers discounts for bicycle hire, boat trips, tickets for museums, restaurants, and so on. Take advantage to enjoy activities in nature with all the family. Spend the night in Bohinj.
Day 6: Medieval cities.
Very close to the National Park, there are a number of medieval cities that are very well conserved, indeed where time appears to have stood still. Crossing the mountains on road 911 to Skofja Loka you will be able to walk through the lovely historical district, one of the best preserved in the country. Another interesting medieval town is Radovlijca, where the Museum of Apiculture is to be found, which is well worth visiting with your children. The production of honey is very important in Radovlijca and in the museum your children will be able to see the preparation process. Spend the night in Bohinj. (Total for the route, 150 km approx.).
Day 7: Julian Alps.
The final day in Triglav, you can take the Vrsic Pass, which crosses the entire National Park to the valley of Soca, known as the valley of the green river and the location for films such as the Chronicles of Narnia. Your children will love to travel through these fairytale landscapes and, if they are older, they will enjoy rowing in the green river in Bovec. You should also visit Kobarid, where one of the most important battles of World War One took place. Indeed in this area you will find a number of open air museums dealing with the subject. Spend the night in Bohinj. (Total for the route, 160 km).
Day 8: Return flight.
In the morning, set off back to Venice Airport. The journey will take about three hours. If your flight is at the end of the day, you could take advantage to visit some charming village in Slovenia or you could take a stroll in Venice. Plan to arrive with sufficient time at the airport to hand back your hire car, check in and embark on your return flight. Arrival and end of the trip.
What documents related with the car rental will Bedooin.com send me?
We will send you a voucher that will contain all the car rental reservation details. That document must be handed over at the car office on arrival. The voucher must be under the same name as the car driver and this same person needs to show a credit card at the office as well. If not, Bedooin cannot guarantee the car delivery by the rental company.
About car rental contract…
We strongly recommend reading over the car rental contract carefully and paying attention at all the details. Make sure that the contract has not extras included that you have not requested. For example: an extra driver, the fuel or a complementary car insurance (SuperCover, PAI, Super CDW, etc). You can always add extra services at car company’s help desk. And remember to return your car tank full of petrol or the car company will charge that to your credit card!
Can I take with me my own child seats for the car instead of renting them?
You can board them as a luggage in one of your suitcases and save the money of renting them to the car company. Although you can also contact us and we will book them for you in advance. Payment will be at the same car rental office.
Can I deliver the car after the time established by car voucher?
You can do it but you will be charged an extra day as deliveries and collections hours much with your trip. Your car document has got all the information about car office timetables.
What is the procedure with the flight company if I am traveling with a buggy?
When you travel with a buggy, most of the flight companies let you board it once you reach the plane. Someone will take it there and return it to you after landing. We recommend to check it in advance at the company website.
Boarding pass. Do not waste time and get them online!
Although with the ID / Passport and the flight document we send you is valid for collecting your boarding passes at company’s boarding desk at the airport, we recommend getting your boarding pass checking in your flight online, both traveling with hand luggage or if you need to board some. In this second case you will only drop your luggage at company’s boarding desk. Between 48 and 24 hours before departure you can do it and download them. Fast, easy and no queues at the airport!
