Located in the Po Valley, halfway between Milan and Venice, Lake Garda is the largest in Italy. It is a lake of glacial origin, located at the foot of the Alps, with over 31 miles long and an area of about 125 square miles. The magnificent scenery and exceptional climate have become the Lago di Garda in one of the main tourist destinations in northern Italy. The landscape in the northern part of the lake, neighboring to the Alps, is very mountainous with very vertical peaks over 6.500 feet high. In the south, much flatter, is full of beautiful towns with a great historical interest. The lake has 8 small islands that can be reached by boat. Do not forget the gastronomy and the lovely wines from the area, the beaches with crystalline waters and Gardaland theme park, the most famous of Italy (a must-visit if you're traveling with children). Since the Lake Garda is in a unique strategic location, is an ideal spot from which to explore much of northern Italy. The following schedule contains a suggestion of visits you can make at your own:
