Starting at the entrance of the valley , the first ski area is Spieljoch, accessible from the village of Fugen, offers 21 km of slopes for good intermediates. In neighbouring Kaltenbach there is access to Hochzillertal skiarea, featuring 84 Km. of excellent and high slopes for intermediates and good off-piste experts. It also connects with Hochfügen slopes, also high and open with excellent snow conditions. Zell am Ziller is the access point to the Zillertal Arena, 155 km of excellent red runs linking 6 different valleys beyond Gerlos and Koenigsleiten, already in Salzburgerland. It's a great skiarea featuring a varied terrain and where you have the sense of travelling (as you actually do). Mayrhofen has access to 2 ski areas: Ahorn, a local mountain with only 15 km of tracks and Ski Zillertal 3000 which is also accessed from the peoples of Schwendau , Finkenberg and Lanersbach. Ski Zillertal 3000 is the latest of the new interlinks of the valley and offers over 140 km of tracks linking different mountains ( Eggalm , Rastkogel and Penken ) by altitude slopes. It is a great place for those who love not repeating a single track and cover a lot of ground. In the innermost point of the valley, Hintertux Gletscher is one of the best glaciers in Europe. It offers 84 km of slopes up to 3250 m. Pistes here tend to be wide and fast cruiseres with excellent snow conditions (you can ski all year). A couple of local resorts, Gerlostein in Zell am Ziller and Fürstalm in Gmünd offer twenty miles of easy slopes adding up to the impressive offer in Zillertal. The investments of the past five years have allowed the renewal of the lifts. Now they are very modern so queues are almost something of the past
The best après-ski is found in Mayrhofen, which has a plenty of nightlife and après ski possibilities. Here we find everything from typical activities Austrian folk dance or pubs to clubs and bars, or lively bowling, curling and tobogganing parties. There are lots of partying after the closure of the lifts and lots of nightlife, but it is not annoying for those who want to sleep. We also find atmosphere though much quieter in Lanersbach, Gerlos, Zell am Ziller, Kaltenbach and Finkenberg. The other towns have only the odd bar and / or nightclub but do not stand for atmosphere or après ski possibilities.
Concerning winter activities there are 150 km of cross-country tracks scattered throughout the valley, about 230 km of marked trails in the snow for winter hiking. There are 16 toboggan runs, the longest 10 km long and nightlighted, which allows very fun themed evenings. Most mountain restaurants are accessible by cable car, so pedestrians can meet for lunch with skieres. The village with mpre opportunities is Mayrhofen, with a good center with shops and restaurants and a spa center and indoor pool. Finkenberg, Kaltenbach, Gerlos, Zell am Ziller and Lanersbach also offer alternative possibilities such as swimming pools, saunas or skating rink. The train that runs through the valley is an excellent oportunity to make excursions to Innsbruck which is quite handy.
