Vail is one of the best resorts of America. It is an excellent destination in many ways, but perhaps the comfort and high quality service are its greatest points. It features excellent hotels by the slopes, comfortable, fast and efficient lifts, more than 5200 acres of fully inter-connected slopes. And, above all, very, very, very well groomed slopes, with the exceptional Colorado snow, dry and plentyful, covering the whole mountain. A visit to Colorado, especially a few days in Vail, is a dream that every skier wants to make real at least once in life. Once he is in Vail easily understands why with every turn he makes. This is a great resort for every kind of skier. There is no need to have a high ski level to enjoy their runs and fantastic snow quality.
The upper ski area has easy runs, while in the lower split there are more difficult ones. But being wide pistes with excellent snow they are quite easily managed so beginners do not have problems and may easily improve. A good advise is hiring one of the expert ski instructors. Improvement is guaranteed.
Vail is a great place for intermediate skiers. The average difficulty level of most slopes being middle. The area of Vail Village and Lionshead are full of lengthy black, red and blue runs to allow long descents without stopping. It also allows small outings to off-piste areas, to practice. Actually, Colorado snow is ideal for those wishing to start the practice of off-piste. The famous Back Bowls, in fact, have limited difficulty so if one feels comfortable on single-diamond groomed runs, can start here off-piste quite comfortably.
Experts will find plenty of options off-piste and not just in the bowls, also on Blue Sky Basin there are excellent options. In addition to hiring the cat- skiing or heli-ski to fully enjoy the famous powder snow of Colorado.
Vail is formed by several different so-called “villages”. The best and most central is the original one, known as Vail Village. It was built in the 50´s following a traditional Tyrolean village pattern. Once you get used to it, it is a very pleasant, lively place , ideal to stroll around and to enjoy après -ski. The other main village, known as Lionshead, is also optimal with direct access to the slopes and a good location to enjoy the evening après-ski and other activities. The rest of villages or areas are not as well located to access the main ski lifts, but there is a good free ski-bus service linking the whole area.
