Ski Pallars, the ski resort of the High Pyrenees, is not a single ski area but 3: Portainé, Espot Esquí and Tavascan. They are all covered by the same skipass (included in your package price). Though very different they share the passion for the high mountain, breathtaking mountain views, great snow conditions, good lifts and uncrowded (if not deserted) slopes.
Espot Esquí enjoys an amazing high mountain location, bordering Aigüestortes National Park. It offers 23 Km. of slopes and a vertical drop of 1.000 (1500-2500 m. high). Most of the slopes are in a forested area with great views. There is an excellent beginners area at 2000 m. and plenty of slopes for families and timid intermediates. Some excellent red and blacks host international championships such as 2013 World Telemark Championships. Espot village, 2 Km. from the lifts, is the gateway to the National Park and one of the most beautiful mountain villages in the Pyrenees.
Portainé is a big bowl with 800 m. vertical drop under Pic de l´Orri (1640-2440 m). All the ski area is north-facing so snow quality is guaranteed. Actually, Portainé is famous for having some of the best snow quality in the Pyrenees. There are almost 30 Km. of slopes catering for beginners, families and timid intermediates. Though there are also excellent off-piste opportunities and a good freestyle area. This is an environmentally friendly resort (all the ski area is inside the High Pyrenees Natural Park). There is an ski-in ski-out hotel, actually the highest hotel in the Pyrenees.
Tavascan is more a mountain resort than a ski resort. It has a chairlift with a 500 m. vertical drop featuring a couple of excellent, long intermediate slopes. But your day in Tavascan shall include something more than alpine skiing as it is a great are also for cross-country, snowshoes or ski touring. In some ways it is a lost paradise in the High Pyrenees, featuring breathtaking views and one of the most snowy areas in southern Europe. After skiing is time to enjoy the Pallars valley. This is a real mountain country with the biggest lake in the Pyrenees, the highest catalan mountain and one of the lowest population density in the whole country. Actually most of the valley is protected under National Park or Natural Park schemes. Small, quaint mountain villages with medieval picturesque churches are really nice to discover. Gastronomy is excellent, with many high valued restaurants around. Pallars people are very proud about their traditions, specially mountain carnival and easter festivities. You will discover a traditional mountain world of its own.
