Day 1: Flight to Munich.
Check-in at your home airport 90 minutes before the designated departure time of your flight to Munich. Upon arrival at Munich Airport pick-up the rental car you will use the whole week. Drive the ca. 200 Km. to the Mittersill area, in National Park Hohe Tauern, where your acommodation is located. Check-in and first night in Austria.<
Day 2: Innsbruck, capital of Tyrol.
Only 120 km. away from Mittersill there is Innsbruck, capital of Tyrol. We suggest to start the visit with the new funicular leading to Nordpark, spectacular work of Zaha Zahid. Back in the city, the highlights are the old town, the Golden Roof, the Court Church, the Hofburg Imperial Palace, the Museum of Tyrolean Folk Art, etc.. You can finish your day in Innsbruck by climbing to the top of the amazing Olympic ski jump in Bergisel. Night in Mittersill.
Day 3: Salzburg, the city of Mozart.
Only 100 km. from Mittersill there is Salzburg. Known as the Rome of the North, it is a city of a very nice architecture (especially Baroque). It is also the city of Mozart (you can visit the birthplace), a city with a great musical scene, and has a beautiful old town at the foot of an massive fortress. Night in Mittersill.
Day 4: Salzkammergut, the Lakes Region.
A round trip of about 300 km. allows a visit to most of Salzkammergut attractions. In the beautiful Lakes Region you will find: Gosau Lake under a glacier, Hallstatt, one of the most charming villages in Austria and Bad Ischl, where the Imperial summer Residence of Sissi was. In the afternoon do not forget St. Wolfgang and St. Gilgen, by the beautiful Lake Wofgangsee, that can be crossed by boat.
Day 5: The Grossglockner Road.
The second most visited place in Austria is the breathtaking Grossglockner Road that crosses the entire National Park Hohe Tauern. From Fusch, the road climbs through incredible mountain scenery to Franz Josef Höhe, overlooking the largest glacier in the Eastern Alps. You can return to Mittersill via East Tyrol: Heiligenblut, Lienz, Virgental and the Felbertauern valley, which ends in a tunnel that leaves you in Mittersill. All in all it is around 230 Km.
Day 6: The Medieval Tirol.
Very near Mittersill you will find Kitzbühel, a world-class ski resort with a beautiful medieval town with colorful houses. Rattenberg, the same style of town, is also famous for its glass and handcrafts. It is the gateway to Alpbach known as the most beautiful mountain village of Tirol. Beyond, you can visit Schwaz´s Gothic church and the walled city of Hall in Tirol, with the infamous Coin Tower. You will drive a total of circa 250 km
Day 7: Hohe Tauern glaciers and waterfalls.
Very near Mittersill, there are the two jewels of the National Park Hohe Tauern. We suggest you to spend the morning in Stubach Valley, just above Uttendorf. Here the cable cars Climb up to the White Lake (2,600 m) overlooking the glaciers of the Tauern mountain range. Next suggestion would be to spend the afternoon in Krimml, to visit the famous waterfalls. They are the highest in the continent, and you can visit them hiking a lovely trail.
Day 8: Flight back home.
. Leave Mittersill with enough time to reach Munich Airport around 120 minutes before the designated departure time of your flight. It´s a drive of around 200 Km. Drop-off the rental car and check-in to your flight. Upon arrival to your home airport end of your trip.
