Your itinerary

1

Day 1: Flight to Venice.

Arrive at the airport ninety minutes before the scheduled take-off time of your flight to Venice. On arrival, pick up your hire car at the airport and start your journey to Carinthia, which will take about two and a half hours. Check-in at your selected accommodation and enjoy your first night in Carinthia.

2

Day 2: Sonnalpe Nassfeld and the Weissensee.

Visit the Alps in Carinthia, on the border with Italy. Sonnalpe Nassfeld is a paradise for snow and nature enthusiasts, and a place to enjoy a day's adventure with your family. Remember that you will have the Kärnten Kard, with free entrance and loads of discounts at many places of interest which we will tell you about in this trip suggestion. To start with, you can take the Millenium-Express, the longest cable car in the Alps to get directly to the Nassfeld plateau. From here, you will enjoy spectacular views of all the Carnic Alps. And if you like controlled adventure, you can have the longest toboggan ride in Carinthia and enjoy the marvelous landscapes - at top speed! You will also find in this area a number of parks where the entire family can enjoy themselves, such as the Kärntner Erlebnispark at the Pressegger See; or alternatively you can follow the "Bergwasser", a 1500-metre circuit between the mountains and the water, with entertainment for the youngest children. Finally, you can visit the Weissensee, an idyllic setting where you can take a dip or carry out another aquatic activity. Spend the night in Carinthia.

3

Day 3: Valleys of Liesertal and Maltatal.

Today we suggest that you take a look at these two valleys, which form what is considered to be the most welcoming region in Europe for families. These valleys are between two national parks: the Hohe Tauern National Park and the Nockberge Biosphere Park. You can follow an Alpine pathway and enjoy the views of the mountains and lakes. But what is certain to delight your children is a visit to the first private Porsche Museum in Europe, which is in Gmüd, the place of origin of the first vehicle of the make. You can either follow the "Fairy Footpath", a large entertainment park in the middle of nature which has the longest suspension bridge in the Alps (175 m). Spend the night in Carinthia.

4

Day 4: Villach and surroundings.

Visit the town of Villach, which has a very large historical centre around the Hauptplatz, which is full of shops and restaurants. From the Hauptplatz you can stroll to the Church of St. Jakob and the Drava River, which runs through the town giving it an even more charming atmosphere. Very close to Villach there are many options for entertainment: you can visit the Alpine Fauna Park at Feld am See; at Bad Bleiberg, a village with a mining tradition, you can enjoy a frenetic descent to the "Terra Mystica" and the "Terra Montana" to discover the secrets of the underground world; or you can enjoy yourselves as a family by taking a thermal bath at the Kaernten Therme baths. Spend the night in Carinthia.

5

Day 5: Medieval Carinthia.

Culture does not mean that the little ones cannot enjoy themselves so today we suggest that you discover central Carinthia and its history by bike. You can ride along the so-called “Mittelkärntner Kulturradweg”, a bicycle tour which begins at St. Veit an der Glan and goes as far as Friesach (31 km approx.), the oldest city in Carinthia. The city still contains many buildings from the medieval period: impressive fortifications, defensive walls and an almost intact moat make the city a historical work of art. You should also discover the "Burgbau", a project to build a 4,000-square-metre medieval fortress using the techniques and the instruments of the past, only natural materials and human and animal strength. Visitors can watch the artisans working and rediscover the way of doing things in the past. Spend the night in Carinthia.

6

Day 6: Rosental Valley.

The Rosental Valley is a paradise for lovers of excursions, but the region offers much more than just its hills and pastures. In this area, you can discover several castles among which the Hollenburg stands out. This is one of the most beautiful castles in Carinthia offering exceptional views of the Rosental Valley. But without a doubt the best-known attraction in the valley is the gorge of Tscheppaschlucht, which you can discover by walking its footpaths, climbs and bridges until you get to the impressive spiral staircase and the spectacular cascade of Tschaukofall. If you don't want to go so high and are looking for a calmer way of discovering the gorge, you can enter the Waldseilpark Tscheppaschlucht Adventure Park, which is suitable for the entire family. Spend the night in Carinthia.

7

Day 7: Klopeiner See.

Today we suggest that you enjoy the day at the lake with Europe's warmest water. The turquoise waters have an average temperature in the month of May of 22 degrees and invite you to take a dip. Klopeiner See also offers over 1,200 kilometres of tracks for bikes, 800 kilometres of footpaths for excursions and many other options. On the one hand, you have the Walderlebniswelt adventure park, with over seventy enjoyable rides; on the other, there is the Vogelpark, an interesting bird park; and you can also enjoy a pleasant boat trip on the lake. Spend the night in Carinthia.

8

Day 8: Return flight.

Today you have to begin the return journey to Venice Airport sufficiently early. We recommend that you reserve a return flight in the afternoon so that you can make the return trip with peace of mind (approx. 2 h 30 min). Return your hire car at the office in the airport. Check in and embarkation of your return flight. Arrival and end of the trip.
