Dia 3: Barcelona-Santes Creus-Tarragona (100km).

You can stop at Sant Sadurní to let a local dealer advise you to buy a good wine from this land. Then stop at Santes Creus Monastery (100 Km. admission included) part of the Cistercian Route. The Monastery of Santes Creus is awesome. Because the cloister, its well-preserved church and, everywhere, an exquisite architecture. The main highlight is the pantheon of Peter II the Great (a XIII century Catalan king), considered the first major work of Catalan Gothic. After the visit continue to Tarragona, capital of southern Catalonia, with a long history from the Roman times of old “Tarraco”. It’s heritage is so amazing that Tarraco has been declared World Heritage by Unesco. Night in Tarragona.

4

Dia 4: Tarragona.

Today you will have a full day to further visiting Tarragona. You cannot miss the site of Tarraco, to visit the old roman heritage, specially the spectacular amphitheater. Also you cannot miss the city's cathedral. But Tarragona is not only a historical town, but also a ravishing modern capital by the sea. If you visit the city in summer, you can enjoy excellent beaches. Anytime of the year you can enjoy the Mediterranean atmosphere visiting the “Serrallo” a typical fishermen neighborhood. The city is also an excellent place to savour Mediterranean cuisine at the harbour restaurants. Night in Tarragona.

5

Dia 5: Tarragona-Poblet-Vallbona-Lleida (103 km).

Leaving Tarragona you will visit the other monasteries of the Cistercian Route (both admission tickets included). First stop, after 50 Km., will be in Poblet, a World Heritage Site by Unesco. Superbly located by Prades Mountains National Park, its severe Cistercian architecture is both mystical and impressive. The monastery still hosts an active community of 30 monks. After the visit continue, crossing grand landscapes, to Vallbona de les Monges Monastery (a mere 35 minutes’ drive away). This is the most beautiful women monastery in Catalonia, also built in Cistercian style. You will visit the church, a cloister, the chapter house, outside chapels, etc. When you are done drive to Lleida (55 Km.) Built around a hill crowned by the Old cathedral, it is a city with a long history dating to pre-Muslim times. You cannot miss the old cathedral and old quarter, and follow the “Ruta Monumental” to stroll around all city highlights. Excellent “Museu Diocesà” boasts a great collection of old religious art. Night in Lleida.

6

Dia 6: Lleida-Montserrat / Manresa (112 km).

Drive to central Catalonia, to discover Montserrat Monastery, one of the most impressive places in the Iberian Peninsula. The Monastery is located in a breathtaking place up in the mountains, surrounded by rocks with amazing shapes. You can access the monastery by car, but we recommend cog-wheel train or cable-car. Inside the monastery you can visit an excellent art museum, an exhibition of the monastery, chapels only accessible by funicular, listen a prestigious boys choir, etc. And all around you will enjoy magnificent views. Montserrat is not only a mountain or a monastery, it has also a symbolical meaning for Catalans. We can say that this is the place where the soul of Catalonia resides. Such a great day will have an amazing end as you will sleep in a Monastery tonight. You can sleep in a hotel in Montserrat itself or in excellent Món Hotel in Sant Benet de Bages Monastery, near Manresa.

7

Dia 7: Montserrat-St. Pere de Casserres-Figueres (150 Km).

Wake up in the monastery and continue your route crossing central Catalonia direction Figueres. On your way we recommend you to visit the Romanesque monastery of Sant Pere de Casserres. This is one of the most interesting medieval monasteries in Catalonia but the real highlight is its amazing location in a picturesque meander of Ter River. After the visit continue to Figueres, Salvador Dalí's city. You cannot miss the Dalí Museum, with the best collection in the world of the great artist. Overnight in Figueres.

8

Dia 8: Sant Pere de Rodes in Costa Brava.

Spend the day touring Empordà region from Figueres. This is Costa Brava area mixing great landscapes of farming fields with sandy beaches and secret coves. The most impressive views of mountains and sea are in the Cap de Creus Natural Park, where you can also visit Sant Pere de Rodes Monastery. A Romanesque masterpiece in superb location overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. After your visit we recommend you drive to Cadaqués, easily most picturesque fishing village in Costa Brava. Salvador Dalí was one of Cadaqués holiday-makers at this isolated village, surrounded by beautiful panoramas and tempting coves. Overnight in Figueres.

9

Dia 9: Figueres-Girona-Barcelona (137 km).

En route to Barcelona, we advise you to stop in Girona (20 Min. from Figueres). Girona is one of the most beautiful small cities in Europe. The most impressive building in the city is the Cathedral. Mixing different styles and periods (XI to XVIII centuries) it stands out as the largest Gothic nave in the world. The city is also proud of its well-preserved medieval Jewish Quarter, the old “Call” a great place to get lost wandering around cobbled streets. You cannot miss a visit to the XII century “Arabic baths”, inspired by old roman baths they are probably best preserved in the world. We also recommend a walk along the walls to have a nice view of the city. Do not forget to cross the Onyar River bridges to enjoy the views of the famous colored houses, the most iconic image of the city. Evening drive to Barcelona (45 Minutes). Overnight in Barcelona.
